还有一个有趣的问题是史矛革是不是最后一条龙，但是托尔金在书信集中曾回答过这个问题，史矛革不是最后一条龙，中土世界还有其他的龙活着。尤其是灰色山脉的冷龙一族。冷龙的意思是这种龙的体型比较小，不会喷火，而我们可以确定的是史矛革是最后一只会喷火的巨龙。
下面一只我们要讨论的巨龙是斯卡萨。有趣的是，在第二纪元的数千年里，我们没有看到任何龙的身影，事实上，在整个第二纪元，索伦曾试图捕捉到一些巨龙并利用他们巩固自己的统治。甚至到了第三纪元的大部分时间里，我们都没能看到龙的身影。在第三纪元2000年的时候，就提到了一只冷龙，叫斯卡萨。冷龙基本上生活在中土世界的最北段的地区。他们能适应极寒的天气。随着时间的推移，他们慢慢南下发展。灰山地区是斯卡萨经常作恶的地区。在灰山附近有一片区域叫荒野平原的地方，那里据说是巨龙的繁殖地，那是一片荒凉的山谷，那里是一片被烈火烧过的荒地，这就说明那里不仅是冷龙的故乡，还有火龙那在那里定居。史矛革可能最早也住在那里。
